Our Story: A Legacy of Excellence, Innovation, and Compassion
The story of our homes is one of pioneering innovation, unwavering compassion, and a lifelong commitment to improving the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities.
Our journey began with Tina Desuasido, RN, and Jerry Gutierrez, who owned and operated Anton's Home, an Intermediate Care Facility for Individuals with Developmental Disabilities and Nursing (ICF/DD-N). Their home quickly became recognized for its exceptional quality of care, outstanding clinical outcomes, and unwavering dedication to every individual they served.
Because of this remarkable success, Golden Gate Regional Center (GGRC) selected Tina and Jerry to help pioneer one of California's most groundbreaking initiatives. They were chosen to develop the first Senate Bill 962 Adult Residential Facility for Persons with Special Health Care Needs (ARFPSHN) in the entire State of California.
This initiative was created as part of California's effort to transition individuals from large institutional Developmental Centers into smaller, community-based homes where they could receive individualized, person-centered care while living with dignity, independence, and a true sense of belonging. In 2004, St. Francis Home opened its doors as California's very first ARFPSHN. The results were extraordinary. Residents experienced improved health outcomes, greater independence, richer community involvement, and an enhanced quality of life. The success of St. Francis Home demonstrated that individuals with complex medical and developmental needs could thrive in a warm, family-centered environment. Just one year later, based on these exceptional outcomes, Tina and Jerry were entrusted with opening St. Cloud Home, becoming operators of California's third statewide ARFPSHN. Once again, their dedication, leadership, and high standards of care produced remarkable results.
The continued success of these homes helped shape the future of specialized residential care throughout California. As more ARFPSHNs were established across the state, countless individuals benefited from the model of compassionate, individualized care that Tina and Jerry helped create. Recognizing their proven record of excellence, they were once again selected in 2015 to develop their third ARFPSHN, St. Anthony's Home (also known as Tina's Care Home).
Today, the impact of Tina and Jerry's work continues to be felt throughout California. Their vision not only changed the lives of the individuals they directly served—it helped transform an entire system of care. Their commitment set a standard of excellence that continues to influence providers and improve lives decades later.
Continuing the Legacy
My name is Kaila Branch, and I have had the privilege of growing up surrounded by this incredible community.
When I was just six years old, my grandmother introduced me to the residents of Anton's Home. Some of my earliest memories are reading stories, playing games, celebrating birthdays, and simply spending time with the remarkable individuals who lived there. Those experiences taught me that quality care is about far more than meeting medical needs—it's about building relationships, creating joy, and treating every person like family.
As I grew older, that passion only deepened. Throughout high school, I volunteered at both St. Francis Home and St. Cloud Home, organizing activities, planning community outings, and creating meaningful opportunities for residents to stay engaged, active, and connected with their communities.
My professional journey was built with the goal of carrying this legacy forward. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Public Health with a minor in Biological Sciences from San José State University, completed an accelerated Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) program, and later earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). I then spent two years working as the floor nurse at St. Anthony's Home, while training extensively in all three ARFPSHN homes under the mentorship of Tina and Jerry. During this time, I learned every aspect of providing exceptional care—from complex medical management and regulatory compliance to building trusting relationships with residents and their families.
In 2023, I was approved as the Administrator of St. Anthony's Home. During my leadership, I continued the tradition of excellence established by my grandparents, helping maintain exceptional standards of care, supporting positive resident outcomes, mentoring staff, and contributing to the successful management of all three homes.
Jerry's Care Home
Jerry's Care Home was founded to honor the extraordinary legacy of Jerry Gutierrez and Tina Desuasido while continuing the mission they began over two decades ago.
Our home is built on the belief that every individual deserves exceptional medical care, genuine compassion, dignity, respect, and the opportunity to live a fulfilling life within a loving home—not simply a facility.
Every decision we make is guided by the same values that helped pioneer California's first ARFPSHN homes: clinical excellence, person-centered care, integrity, and family.
Today, we proudly continue that legacy by providing individualized, high-quality care in a warm, welcoming environment where residents are known, valued, celebrated, and empowered to live their best lives.
Because for us, caring for our residents isn't just our profession—it's our family's legacy.
